Had a wonderful time last Wednesday shooting the sublime hair creations from Skizza’s Hair Design in Grafton. Our youngest model Ellie, strongly resembles the likes of Marilyn Monroe - such a dream to photograph!

Lara Jade: Inspirational Fashion Photographer

As an aspiring photographer nothing fuels my vision more then an influential figure that I can strongly relate to. Around the age of 14 I discovered Lara Jade’s work on Deviant art, over the years I have witnessed her personal style grow and have become enthralled by her attitude to the photography industry.

I strongly admired her technique and her ability to take theatrical photographs on top of doing hair/makeup & retouching.

Lara Jade is now living and working in New York city, the industrial central for creative minds, and too this day has been a tremendous inspiration not only to my photography style but also my creative career, at the age of 22 Lara has achieved commercial success in not only her photographic artwork, but in mentoring aspiring photographers with her international photography workshops, one of which for the first time is taking place in Australia in association with the Inspire me 2012 workshops (wish I could say that I was attending).

Lara has recently teamed up with another photographer - Joey L to create an educational photography workshop dvd “Photographer Shoot Off” which compares each photographers techniques throughout a series photographic challenges.

After a long time of waiting i’ve finally been able to get my hands on a copy, and much to my delight I was happily surprised. This dvd workshop is not your usual ”101 guide to photography”. The workshop documents each photographer in action during a real editorial photoshoot, you get to experience first hand how Lara Jade directs her models, works with a creative team, overcomes challenges and how she post-processes her work using Lightroom & Adobe Photoshop. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the 4 hours of footage and fingers crosses for a sequel.

Behind The Scenes with Abbie

Here’s a little sneak preview of last Wednesday’s photoshoot with the beautiful Abbie Weir. The “Free From Influence” photoshoot will be released early next month, until then- Enjoy!

Before I set sails for Indonesia, I photographed some family portraits for the Lashman sisters. Here’s some of my favorite photos of Blaire and and Georgia.

Indonesia: Photo Diary

2012’s travels to Indonesia has opened my eyes unbelievably so. Traveling here as a younger teen it was hard to mentally get past the culture shock and the amazing retail (naturally) but this time has turned a new chapter as we ventured deeper into the heart of Bali. Monday’s adventure to the Monkey Forest in the heart of Ubud was amazing and I got to test out my skills in the wild.

Would love to hear what you think about my first stab at wildlife photography here.

A New year, A New lens and a Newly renovated blog

A new year, a new lens, a new year’s resolution and a newly renovated blog. These four factors are what 2012 is going to be primarily focused on.

A new year; This year above all years is the most important, the very first year of my life as an adult and the very first year of my life without school. 2012 will bring upon the greatest and hardest changes, I’m already finding it hard to say goodbye to friends who have new founded opportunities elsewhere, but with this being said- i look forward to meeting new people in the industry and meeting others that share this common interest.

A new lens; A new photography style. I’m dedicating the next 365 days to developing my photography style. For a long time I have been studying the works of Annie Leibovitz, Lara Jade and Eugenio Recuenco- getting to the nitty gritty of what makes their works so theatrical, with a lot of research and late-night behind the scenes YouTube videos I’m finding myself so inspired and ready to put my experimental ideas to action. To push this movement forward I’ve decided to invest in a 50mm 1.4 Nikon Lens, Bring it on!

A new year’s resolution; work harder. More personal projects, new creative teams and updating my blog on a regular basis. This year I’m going to take a page out of Jenna Marbles book and say every new Wednesday is a new blog post. I have newly renovated the page making it more personal and less commercial.

So here’s to a year in the life of the Lazy Photographer
